Growing Anger in Sweden for Tiger
News reports by Mattias Karaen, AP Sports Writer, and others indicate that for Tiger’s Swedish in-laws, business seems as usual. Tiger’s current in-laws are famous in Sweden in their own right: Elin’s father is Thomas Nordegren who hosts a famous Swedish radio talk show; her mother, Barbro Holmberg is a well known Swedish politician. Both are at work in Sweden.
For the most part, Swedish media has respected Nordegren and Homberg’s request for privacy. Thomas Nordegren, popular in his own right as a talk show host was asked by his listeners to comment on the Tiger-in-your-tank brouhaha. According the AP account, Nordegren said “I do, of course, have an opinion about both the Internet gossip and media’s treatment. But now I view it as my biggest task to support my daughter and my grandchildren. So to bring that up in my own program would be inappropriate and not in line with the programming rules. So enough about this.”

While Nordegren and Holmberg are saying little, the Swedes themselves are following a different tact. The mood toward Tiger for mistreating Elin is as chilly as a Swedish winter.
Swedes, known for Nordic beauties descended from Vikings and tough as nails, seemed proud of Elin for allegedly taking a golf club to go after Tiger. “For us, it was almost a positive thing that she smashed the car window, We like strong women in a lot of ways.”
Obviously, Tiger did as well. He may learn in the weeks and months to come why the Vikings conquered Europe.
