Gilbert Arenas Not Licensed to Possess Hand Guns
by Courtside Post Staff Writer
According to TMZ, Law enforcement officials said that Gilbert Arenas, guard for the Washington Wizards, didn’t have a license to possess the guns he kept in the team’s locker room at the Verizon Center.
After four guns were discovered in Arenas’ locker including a large handgun called a gold-plated Desert Eagle, the player once known as Agent Zero could be charged with “carrying a pistol without a license.”
TMZ also reported that D.C. cops plan to bring in Washington Wizards coach Flip Saunders today for questioning. GM Ernie Grunfeld will be brought in later this week.
The new charge stems from a Christmas Eve incident between Arenas and teammate and fellow point guard Jarvis Crittenton. In what was originally reported as a dispute among the teamates over a gambling debt, Arenas took unloaded guns from his locker in a “misguided effort to play a joke” on Crittenton.
In the statement given to prosecutors, Arenas acknowledges that “what I did was a mistake and was wrong.” He says he now realizes “there’s no such thing as joking around when it comes to guns even if unloaded.”
Arenas repeated his earlier assertion that he brought four guns to the Verizon Center to store in his locker to get them out of his house and away from his children.
