Dodgers Gearing Up For Nasty Divorce
By Brittni Michaelis
Not only are the Los Angeles Dodgers getting ready for spring training and the 2010 regular season, they are dealing with off the field issues as well. Frank and Jamie McCourt, the Dodgers owner and CEO respectively, are undergoing a bitter divorce battle.
On October 14, 2009, after 30 years of marriage, the couple decided to separate. While both parties said that their focus is on the Dodgers, Jamie was fired from her position as CEO, one day after the Dodgers ended their playoff run with a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. Mrs. McCourt filed for divorce shortly after and Mr. McCourt accused her of having an affair with her bodyguard, she denies such claims.
The divorce, whenever it is settled, will clear up the issue of who rightfully owns the Dodgers. However in the mean time, Jamie McCourt wants Frank to provide her with $988,845 a month for temporary support, according to TMZ.
While Jamie claims its,“ it’s necessary to maintain her accustomed marital lifestyle” she mentions nothing about wanting access to the Los Angeles Dodgers or to have any part in their daily operations. She goes onto state that, “Frank’s 2008 personal financial statements put his net worth at $834,900,000 and valued McCourt Enterprises in excess of $2 billion.”
Whether or not Jamie McCourt gets all that she is asking for, is to be determined. I hope that for the Dodgers’ sake, this get resolved before April, because such a distraction could be detrimental for the players and coaches in the clubhouse.
