It’s normally like being in a smoky Church basement, gruff men and bloated women sitting in a circle, Twelve Steps hanging on the wall – I’m Peter, I’m a hockey fan. But not right now. Now I can sing it at the top of my lungs because the world just watched some of the best damn hockey ever played during the 2010 Olympic games.

But how long will it last, this hockey fever? Has it already passed? Has the average sports fan started brainstorming about sleeper teams for his March Madness bracket?

Call me crazy, but Wednesday made me a little bit more proud to be an American. Me – I’m sitting on the couch watching sporting events I’ve barely heard of, rocking my sweatpants and eating potato chips, cheering with all my might as the US accomplished a national Olympic best by taking home six medals in one day.

BUZZ Kobe Bryant returned to the spotlight Tuesday after a grueling two-week stretch of relatively Kobe-free media. Thank god. No, he wasn’t back on the court, his ankle still not feeling great. And much to the dismay of sketchy Dallas club-going enthusiasts, it wasn’t at the topless SHOW party he was rumored to be hosting. No, Kobe returned to our attention in a feature article written by J.R. Moehringer in GQ.

SPORTS OWNER SPOTLIGHT According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, the NFL’s worst team last season, the St. Louis Rams, is in the final stages of changing ownership.

Current majority owners Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriquez – children of the late Georgia Frontiere) have dumped their 60% of the waning franchise into the lap of Illinois businessman Shahid Khan. The details of the sale have not been made public. Also, the sale of an NFL franchise must be approved by 75% of current NFL owners.

BUZZ San Antonio Spurs guard George Hill is the latest athlete to rock pictures of himself naked, flexing, posturing, posing, into a mirror. Surprise, these pictures ended up on the Internet.

Greg Oden became the latest athlete whose naked self-portrait made its way from hands of a girlfriend to the hands of all the rest of us. Yes, you could say that this may be an embarrassing moment, his most exposed-self available at the click of a mouse. But I assure Oden has nothing to be embarrassed about.
